I have raised Mastiffs for many years. All of my children and most of my friends and family now have Mastiffs of their own. They are great companion dogs and are gentle with children and pets. Many people have been amazed at how great they are in the home and how easily they become family oriented. A Mastiff will become very attached to its family and sometimes does not adjust very well when placed in a new home so the purchase of a Mastiff should be considered with this in mind. A Mastiff is not for everyone. They are a very large, heavy dog and transporting them to the vet must be considered. They do love to go for rides in the car and they think they should go with you every time. Some are easier to train than others but this is with every breed of dog. Most are easily housebroken. Socialization is a must at a young age. You want your puppy to be friendly and comfortable with strangers and in strange environments so I highly recommend taking your puppy to as many places as possible as often as possible. This also provides a bonding time with you and your puppy. A confident and happy dog is the ultimate goal of all dog owners and this only happens if you spend time with your dog.

Once you own a Mastiff you will grow in appreciation of this wonderful breed and will probably own many more. I have raised many different breeds of dogs and the Mastiff is by far my favorite. I love their personality and their loyalty. I may not always raise Mastiffs but I will always have one or two or three. I cannot envision my life without a Mastiff to share it with so I hope I will always be able to have them.
