About our Shepherds of the Mount

Welcome to the Shepherds of the Mount website. We are a small breeder of the European German Shepherd, which we breed for temperament, intelligence and health. All of our dogs have very good dispositions, excellent proportions and drive. Their larger size and dense bones reflect the breeding standards of the old European German Shepherd Dog. Shepherds of the Mount puppies are raised in our home (not in a kennel) around children and cats. Our dogs are raised in a mountainous environment and are fed a highly nutritious, natural diet which helps to ensure a superior shepherd in body, mind and temperament. As a further precaution against genetic defects we do not line-breed our dogs.

Pictures of two puppies from Zeus and Hera’s October, 2008 litter. The one on the left is a traditional and the one on the right is a sable. At the time of these pictures these puppies were six months old and weighed an average of eighty to ninety pounds.

Our German Shepherds


Zeus is AKC registered and his X-rays showed ‘Good’ hips. Zeus is currently CGC certified and he has a beautiful black and red, short plushcoat. Height: 27 inches. Weight: 120 pounds. Traits: Highly intelligent, powerful personality, strong protective instinct with an excellent muscular build and an exceptional sense of smell.


Hera is AKC registered and her X-rays showed ‘Good’ hips. She is CGC certified and has a blond sable, short coat. Height: 26 inches. Weight: 90 pounds. Traits: Strong Alpha female leader, very courageous, intelligent with a very muscular body.


Kinza is AKC registered and her X-rays showed ‘Excellent’ hips. She is K-9 trained and has a black and red traditional short coat. Height: 27 inches. Weight: 95 pounds. Traits: Alert with a medium-high drive, a keen intelligence and strong will to excel.
