Schipperke - High energy dogs that are very independent with a lot of personality. They are explorers, and should either have a fenced yard or be walked on a leash everyday. Schipperkes are always pure black. Most Schipperkes tails must be docked in such a way that there is no discernable tail. Their coat is thick and slightly rough to the touch, and very little bathing or brushing is needed to maintain it, although they do shed. Their history is somewhat unclear - some feel that they are a spitz type dog, while others claim they are related to the Belgian Shepherd.
